I took a part-time job as an archivist for the university library. Would you believe that it is becoming one of the best gigs I’ve ever had? No email, no permanent desk, and access to a climate-controlled room filled with stacks of antique junk. On Tuesday my supervisor showed me a drawer containing presidential campaign buttons. “Gosh,” I said.
Bon Iver – “22 (OVER S∞∞N)”
“22, A Million” released yesterday, crisp and glitchy like the autumn air.
Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam – “A 1000 Times”
Hey are you someone who wants a new Walkmen album and a new Vampire Weekend album but you’re just too darn busy to listen to two albums? Here you go! (Sorry, that’s reductive; it’s a great album that takes the best parts of both bands—Leithauser’s scratchy howl from the Walkmen and Rostam’s dreamy, just-above-water noise from Vampire Weekend—and it all gets distilled to something perfect for the autumn.)
“I Had A Dream That You Were Mine” is out now.
Angel Olsen – “Shut Up Kiss Me”
My favorite part of this song is when Olsen channels Walt Whitman with: “If I’m out of sight then take another look around / I’m still out there hoping to be found.”
Sounds like heaven.
